With ten patients, a large-capacity Fénix of the Prague ambulance, accompanied by police and firefighters, headed from the Brno University Hospital to Prague. Ambulances from the University Hospital at St. Anne’s went to Prague with two patients. Other patients will be transported by ambulance or army helicopter.
Of the 19 patients, four are on artificial lung ventilation, the remaining 15 are from standard wards. Patients will head to Homolka Hospital, Bulovka University Hospital and General University Hospital.
The special Fénix car – named after a mythical bird that is reborn after death – is designed for interventions with a larger number of patients. It measures ten meters and can carry up to twelve people on stretchers or up to three on hospital beds. She presented herself for the first time in the fall.
The deputy of the Brno University Hospital, Ondřej Ludka, told reporters that the hospital had selected patients to transport until the morning. According to him, some did not want family transport, others want to stay in the region. Complications also occurred in two emerging transports of patients to artificial lung ventilation, because one of them had a condition according to Ludka’s offer.
“In addition, we also deal with the fact that we have patients lying on our stomachs, which will not take us to the helicopter. The patient’s capacity in the helicopter is 130 kilos, but we also have a patient with 170 kilos, “the deputy outlined the problems that the hospital had to solve. In the end, however, two patients opted for artificial lung ventilation.
The goal of the transport is to help South Moravian hospitals that are overwhelmed with coronavirus patients. Some have already declared an emergency, such as Vyškov or Kyjov.
The South Moravian inpatient care coordinator Vladimír Šrámek believes that the inpatient capacity in the whole region will still be exhausted. According to him, Thursday ferries will only help for a short time. Czech Television informed about it.
As of Thursday, there are almost 900 hospitalized with the covid in the South Moravian Region, said Alena Knotková, a spokeswoman for the region. It is, together with the Moravian-Silesian Region, the highest number in the country. Of these, about 160 patients are in intensive care units, which is the most in the Czech Republic.
According to the Ministry of Health, there are now 1323 newly infected covid-19 per 100,000 inhabitants of the South Moravian Region in the last seven days, a figure that was 62 lower on Wednesday. On Wednesday, the ministry registered 2,291 new cases of coronavirus in the region, which is 700 more than a week ago. But last Wednesday was a holiday, so less was tested.
