Orange lights and red benches, Siena and its territory move against violence against women
Many structures and institutional offices in our area have been colored orange, such as the Chapel in Piazza del Campo. A symbolic gesture that is part of the “range the world” campaign promoted by UN Women. A gesture that serves, even in Siena, to keep attention on the serious problem of gender-based violence.
Today, on the occasion of the “International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women”, there have been many awareness-raising initiatives in the province to keep the lens on a topic that unfortunately, in Italy, is still relevant. Palazzo Pubblico (link here) has opened the works of today’s municipal council with various insights and contributions. “Women go through this. “A hateful crime”, as Prime Minister Mario Draghi recently defined it. An aberrant crime, especially when consumed in defined evolved societies. Civil. Among these also the Italian one. An endless emergency that can only be fought with prevention. With awareness-raising actions capable of reaching every segment of the population. With initiatives and activities that make people think, that educate, that lead to undertake a cultural path through which any gender prejudice is eliminated “, said the councilor for equal opportunities and youth policies Clio Biondi Santi
Confesercenti: “Vigilant also during the rest of the year” – “We would like to do without days like this. But the objective has not yet been achieved, and therefore it is right and necessary to repeat that violence against women is being fought until it is eliminated ”. Thus Leonardo Nannizzi, Provincial President of Confesercenti Siena, combines the testimony of the trade association with that of all the women and men who today take sides against gender violence. “It is certainly worth reiterating: we say no to any harassment, both physical and verbal or in behavior, at home as in the world of work – he adds – against women, but also for individuals who are in difficulty or in danger in by virtue of one’s somatic characteristics or origin. A day of raising awareness on this issue is needed, but it cannot be enough to induce us to ignore the problem in the rest of the year: society needs to keep the disapproval of certain behaviors alive tomorrow and in the following days. Let’s think about it more every day to make sure that we don’t have to dedicate a day or anything else to this problem ”.
Province –The province building was completely lit up in orange on the occasion of the World Day against Violence against Women. “An invitation addressed to all local administrations – said Giulia Periccioli, provincial councilor for equal opportunities – as a symbolic act that reaffirms the commitment of public administrations, but above all which represents an opportunity for citizens to reflect on this phenomenon which is structural and for which work, daily commitment and widespread awareness are needed. Gender-based violence is always, if not only, a cultural problem. It is not a private fact but a social one and as such it must be addressed in its public dimension “. Also within the initiatives for November 25, the Province of Siena supports the photographic exhibition by Luciana Petti Words are not butterflies, a fight against sexist prejudices, scheduled until November 27 at the CoopFi Centro Siena delle Grondaie. The message Chiama il 1522 will be visible for the whole day of 25 November on the institutional website of the Province of Siena.
Poggibonsi – In Poggibonsi orange light on the town hall. “A symbolic gesture that joins the many concrete actions that our territory has been planning, developing and promoting for years – says Susanna Salvadori, councilor for equal opportunities and president of the Altavaldelsa Equal Opportunity Center – A 360-degree commitment that is articulated through a network important territorial and which can count on professionalism, associations, prevention tools, awareness raising but also training, reception and reintegration. A network that I thank in all its aspects “.
Rapolano Terme – On the occasion of the World Day against Violence against Women which occurs today, Thursday 25 November, the Municipality of Rapolano Terme has installed two red benches to say no to violence against women and to remember all the victims of femicides. “The two symbolic acts – affirm the deputy mayor and councilor for equal opportunities, Gianna Trapassi – reaffirm the commitment of the municipal administration to counter and prevent violence against women and to sensitize every citizen to contribute to the construction of a new gender culture” .
Montepulciano – From tonight, the Pulcinella Tower, one of the most popular architectural elements of the historic center of Poliziano, is illuminated in orange, a sign of adhesion to the international campaign “Orange the World”
