New cargo plane in Cologne / Bonn: Airbus A330 flies three times a week to New York
Cologne / Bonn –
This week Cologne / Bonn Airport is celebrating the arrival of the nine and converted cargo planes from MNG Airlines and the first flight of the new line connection from Cologne to New York. With the Airbus A330, which can transport up to 63 tons per flight, the MNG Airlines fleet has grown to nine cargo planes. According to the airport, a second A330 will be added to the fleet at the end of August 2022.
The second A330 will arrive in August
The expanded capacities also enable MNG Airlines to significantly expand their flight program at the EU hub in Cologne. In addition to the regular flights Istanbul – Cologne, which take place six times a week, MNG Airlines is now introducing a freighter service Cologne – New York, which flies three times a week. Sedat Ozkazanc, Managing Director of MNG Airlines, said in a friendly manner: “We are very pleased to strengthen our flight program in Europe and to expand it to New York JFK. We have high expectations for the future of MNG Airlines with this new A330. “
Johan Vanneste, Head of Cologne / Bonn Airport, adds: “We are delighted that our long-term cargo airline partner MNG Airlines is significantly expanding its presence at the CGN.”
MNG is a Turkish cargo airline based in Istanbul, which flies to Cologne and Leipzig in Germany. In addition to the new Airbus A330, the airline has seven Airbus A300 cargo planes.
The Airbus A330 is a twin-engine, wide-body aircraft that is actually designed as a passenger jet. Lufthansawings Discover and previously the now insolvent Air Berlin also use or use the model, which is technically very closely related to the four-engine Airbus A340.
During this time, former passenger planes are regularly converted into cargo planes, including this model with the specific designation A330-300P2F. The 300 means that it is the long version of the machine. P2F means “Passenger to Freight”, also means that the machine was converted from a passenger to a cargo plane.
Due to the lack of a night flight ban, Cologne is one of the most important air freight hubs in Germany, alongside Leipzig / Halle and Frankfurt. Because of the particular use of McDonnell-Douglas MD11 cargo planes at night by the airlines Fedex and UPS, there had recently been a lot of trouble among the noise-plagued residents in the vicinity of the airport. The A330 is considered a more modern, somewhat quieter aircraft than the MD11. According to Cologne / Bonn Airport, the MNG plane normally only flies to the airport during the day.
