Whether for work or leisure, a concentration of thousands of frontiers residing in Lorraine join the Luxembourg daily.
But the former French region recognizes that the transport offer is not up to standard. To rectify the situation, she signed a white paper on Wednesday, November 24, 2021 in Pont-à-Mousson, in which there are mobility solutions for the 2030 horizon.

This document details the nine commitments that emerged during the Grenelle des Mobilités in March 2021 and broken down into 27 priority areas of work.
Densify the rail offer
Among these, we find the construction of the Metropolitan Express Network (REM) with the aim of strengthening the railway line. Nancy-Metz-Luxembourg and emit the frequency as well as the capacitance.
This REM should allow travelers to have a train every 7 minutes 30 from Thionville and every 10 minutes from Metz to Luxembourg.
A necessity according to the white paper signed by elected officials: “In Lorraine, the REM seems to be a solution to the increase in mobility, in particular in exchange with Luxembourg, in a cross-border polycentric metropolitan area of more than 1.5 million inhabitants: the living areas of Nancy, Metz, Thionville and Luxembourg ”.
The idea is therefore to increase the TER offer between these four poles, by 2030, all in conjunction with the other lines in Lorraine.
Lanes reserved for carpooling
While waiting for the A31 bis to emerge from the ground, the idea of reserved lanes on the current A31 is discussed, in particular to allow the development of carpooling on a daily basis: “The objective is to reduce pollution and decongest the accesses. to dense urban areas. This solution can also be close within the framework of cross-border traffic “.
To do this, an agreement with the Luxembourg authorities will have to be found. But “such an experiment can also be where the A31 is already three lanes”, specifies the white paper which adds that “seems essential to test this device when the new infrastructure of the A31 bis will be carried out”.
Finally, among the other operations identified during the Grenelle, elected officials highlighted a study to connect the A30 motorway to Esch-Belval.
