Coalition – Berlin – Prien: traffic light in education policy abstract and unambitious – politics
Berlin (dpa) – Schleswig-Holstein’s education minister Karin Prien (CDU) has told the traffic light parties SPD, Greens and FDP that education policy is not too ambitious. “The Gordian knot of education financing is described, but not cut through,” said Prien of the German press agency in Berlin. “I would have wished for more courage and had hoped that those who want to dare to make more progress would also dare to make the necessary amendment to the Basic Law.” The finances and structures between the federal, state and local governments must be reorganized. “Dual structures and a program that ignores the needs in the countries are not expedient.”
The traffic light coalition agreement remains “with abstract and unambitious phrases” in the field of education, criticized Prien. The chance to convert the massive innovation surge and the changes in the educational landscape that was triggered by the corona pandemic into a long-term strategy had been wasted.
In digitization, for example, the focus is on devices and too little on pedagogy. Existing projects and programs should be continued. That is not enough. The digital competence centers must now come quickly to get teacher professionalization and the development of learning environments on the legs. School building must also be promoted nationwide and nationwide. “Schools need the largest investment program that this republic has seen since reunification,” said Prien.
