Several corona outbreaks recorded in Berlin nursing homes – Berlin.de
The corona virus has recently caused outbreaks again in a number of Berlin nursing homes. As of Tuesday, there were still active infections in eleven long-term care facilities, said the Senate Department for Health, Care and Equality at the request of the German Press Agency. In these cases, a total of 83 residents were infected and 5 died. The information relates to outbreaks with at least three infected residents.
In the period from August 19 to November 19, outbreaks in 38 care facilities were reported to the home supervisor, it said. “During the same period, a total of 25 residents died of and / or with Sars-CoV-2 infection.” The four largest outbreaks at the beginning of November occurred in facilities in Lichtenberg, Pankow and Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg – with a total of 105 infected residents. The majority of them are now considered to have recovered.
The medical officer of Berlin-Reinickendorf, Patrick Larscheid, had recently told the dpa about outbreaks in homes: “The vaccination is working, we have fewer cases than last year. They save many old people from premature death. ” In contrast to autumn and winter 2020, many people who tested positive do not even respond. Despite the need, one must realize that the numbers would be even higher without vaccination. Also, not all nursing home residents are vaccinated against Corona.

In Berlin, the seven-day incidence – the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within a week – has recently risen to record levels. Since the beginning of the pandemic, there have been outbreaks in old people’s and nursing homes, in some cases with very high death rates among residents. A year ago there were over a dozen deaths in a home in Lichtenberg after an outbreak.
