Mayor Hřib: It no longer steals in Prague and the coalition is holding on

Comment on the Facebook profile on the three-year anniversary of the mayor’s office
Let yourself. They are already under 3 years since I became mayor of Prague.
I knew from the beginning that this would be a huge challenge, and that is why what I said that day still applies: that I approach this position with humility.
We took over the administration of Prague at a time when the Troja footbridge was here, the bridges were in a catastrophic technical condition, the road repairs were incredibly 30 billion CZK, the city management supported the chairs through a newsagent’s, orders were distributed non-transparently and Mariánské náměstí, where the municipality is located , was still nicknamed the “Mafia”. At the same time, everything was sewn with a hot needle and the city lacked greater vision for the future.
But as the father of three children, I cared that the children could one day live in a completely different Prague. In a smart city that will serve its citizens and not the godparents. That’s why I went for it.
Of course, it is not possible to change everything by 180 degrees by waving a magic wand, especially when we have been fighting a coronavirus pandemic for two more years (and I dare say that we managed it really with honor in Prague). But in those three years, I think we have started to move Prague in the really right direction.
Especially in Prague, they are no longer stealing and the coalition is holding on. Thanks to that, we can work fully for the people of Prague. Finally, things that used to be unthinkable began to move, but nothing happened:
Metro D or Wenceslas Square was finally built. Prague is experiencing a tram boom in terms of the development of tram lines (Slivenec, Dědina, Libuš, Pankrác, Václavák). We repair bridges and build new ones. We have become a leader in tackling climate change and greening the city. We have stopped crouching and encouraging dictatorships, but instead strengthening our partnership with modern democracy and (not only) Central European free cities. We fight against tourist traps, scoundrels and visual smog. We are accelerating housing construction, we have stopped selling the housing stock, on the contrary, we are expanding it. We repair and buy city flats and we have approved their construction in the same way as we start cooperative housing. We also pay attention to the most vulnerable, children, seniors or citizens with disabilities.
We simply want from Prague, where no one will stand on the sidelines and where everyone will know that they have a stand. It is a difficult task because the idea of an ideal city has each other. But it makes sense to look for the imaginary intersection of common ideas. Seeing opportunities that we can go for and that will benefit everyone.
Looking back, a piece of good work is really visible. Those who will evaluate everything in the end, but of course you, the people of Prague. So I may be happy for your comment, as you see it, and most importantly – thank you for your support so far.
