MARSEILLE: International Day for Combating Violence Against Women
| Thursday, November 25, 2021, international lute day against violence against women.
On the occasion of the international day against violence against women, the State in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region highlights the work carried out throughout the year by its services to prevent and fight against all forms of violence against women. It is the daily struggle of gendarmes, police officers, hospital agents, magistrates, accommodation, housing, employment and integration agents.
In Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, this violence was the cause of 11 feminicides in 2019 and as many last year. Throughout the year, the State works to optimize protection systems at the local level. In the region, the constant evolution of the number of protection orders reflects this improvement: in 2020, 107 orders were granted against 76 in 2019 and 61 in 2018.
Throughout the region, initiatives are being carried out with the support of the departmental prefectures. The objective is, on the one hand, to raise the awareness of professionals and the general public and, on the other hand, to fight in a concrete manner against all forms of violence of which women may be victims. These events are part of an interministerial public policy led by the State to build and implement local mechanisms as close as possible to the needs of women victims.
: immediate listening and protection, emergency shelter, access to healthcare, access to employment and financial autonomy.
This public action is the result of partnership work coordinated throughout the year in our territory by the State services, and in particular by the Departmental Delegates for Women’s Rights and Equality between Women and men. In the various departments, this work is daily: an on-call system linked to the 115 is available 24 hours a day in the Var to provide emergency accommodation and support victims of violence; in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, the Operation on bread bags illustrates the “tespastouteseule” campaign. In 2021, innovative measures to combat violence against women were launched throughout the region: complaints “outside the walls” (police stations) are being tested on different sites (Vaucluse, Hautes-Alpes, Bouches- du-Rhône, Alpes-Maritimes), videoconferencing is developing in the Hautes-Alpes to support isolated victims and two care centers for perpetrators of domestic violence have been created.
Breaking free from a situation of control and getting out of the cycle of violence is a long and difficult journey. This is why each professional has a role to play, whether he or she relates to health, justice, law enforcement, social or even employment.
The fight against violence against women is a constant struggle. It is thanks to the mobilization of everyone that we will collectively succeed in protecting the victims and raising the awareness of all citizens.
