In support of migrants from Calais, a dozen Millavois fasted
Outraged by the situation of migrants in France and in Europe, many associations have decided to express their solidarity.
We are on October 11, 935 km further north, on the French coast bordering the Channel, three humanitarians start a hunger strike to protest against the treatment of migrants in Calais. On November 17 and despite the sending of a mediator by the government, no solution was found. After 37 days without eating, the fast of the three militants stops. But it was without counting on Emmaus France and Europe which launched a call for a 24-hour solidarity fast to highlight the situation of migrants.
In the face of contempt for @gouvernementFR, the mobilization continues in defense of the exiles!
Today, with Emmaus Europe and more than 50 associations, we call on European citizens to follow us in a solidarity fast of 24 hours #faimauxfrontiereshttps://t.co/FhePimNuOK pic.twitter.com/Hf1kBJWidT– Emmaus France (@emmaus_france) November 19, 2021
Invitation relayed by five Millavian associations: The Human Rights League, the Millavian Migrant Support Collective, the Palestine Collective12, the Jewish Union of France for Peace and Larzac Solidarity.
According to associations, it is about “a dozen” activists from Millau who were able to follow this call.

A form of complementary solidarity
Hervé Ott is one of them. The volunteer of the Migrant Support Collective and Larzac Solidarity from time to time fasting, “in a personal capacity”, but he considers that this action is “a form of solidarity complementary to the demonstrations and to the press releases. It is a real personal implication. And it is important to have this experience, because one surrenders account of what it is not to eat “. Agnès, from the same collective as Hervé, has been aware of this subject since the boat people of the 1970s. Deserved people ”.
A day for awareness
If in Millau, “there is great solidarity around the issue of migrants,” note the activists, it is always good to give a reminder. On December 18, for International Migrants Day, the Millavian associations are organizing an event whose “outlines remain to be specified” so as not to forget “these people who live their lives for a better future”.
