Even Thomas Pesquet, then freshly returned from space, had noticed it: a whole new basket court 3 × 3, a variant of the discipline which consists of opposing two teams of three, has appeared on the Left Bank of Rouen (Seine-Maritime). In the Grammont park, which plays the Simone-de-Beauvoir library, the equipment was inaugurated on Wednesday, November 24, in the presence of the one whose name it bears, the Olympic basketball champion. Emilie Gomis. It is, according to the International Basketball Federation (Fiba), the first woman to give her name to a playing field.
Capital of my region + basketball + female model + beautiful colorful illustrations (reminds me #ODD and my #alpha mission patch). What’s not to like? ️ https://t.co/zlGXhYpQFH

The soon to be renamed Kindarena rooms
Very moved, Emilie Gomis expressed her gratitude to the City, which suggested her name among others in a citizens’ vote to name the equipment. “It opens doors and gives visibility to women in sport,” explained the Rouennaise, silver medalist at the 2012 Olympics. I dream that in a few years, a player who will be at the Olympic Games or in a team de France says that it is on the field Emilie Gomis that he or she started to play. ”

The design of the field was carried out by the Rouen artist Mozaik, who said he was a basketball fan, just like the mayor of the city, Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol, who also received a jersey for the occasion. This new field with a female name, for him, is part of the fight against gender inequalities, because it contributes to “changing representations”. He announced a forthcoming citizen vote, this time to rename the two Kindarena rooms, and again, only the names of women will be in the running.
