ESA Space Solutions Portugal supports space technology transfer – News from Coimbra

Portugal is the only European country to coordinate, through the Pedro Nunes Institute, three programs for the transfer of space technology from the European Space Agency. ESA Space Solutions Portugal allows Portuguese companies to receive technical, financial and business support to create their businesses with space technology.

O ESA Space Solutions Portugal, coordinated by Instituto Pedro Nunes (IPN), will celebrate its 7th anniversary on Wednesday, November 24, from 10:00 am. The event takes place on the premises of the IPN (Building D), where it will generate the balance sheet figures for the last seven years and the new companies that will be admitted to the Portuguese incubator of the European Space Agency (ESA).

In 2014, the IPN became the first Space Solutions Center, among 20 centers in Europe, to coordinate three ESA space technology transfer programs that have allowed Portuguese companies to receive technical, financial and business support to create your business with space assets.

In seven years, the IPN, through the ESA Business Incubation Center (ESA BIC Portugal), has already incubated 42 companies that integrate space technology in terrestrial applications, leading to the creation of around 150 new jobs, with a total turnover of around 4.9 million euros and an export capacity of more than 1.4 millions of euros.

IPN is also an ambassador for the program. ESA Business Applications, having already co-financed technical and market feasibility studies for 21 Portuguese projects that use space assets to create new applications for terrestrial markets, with an investment of more than 2.7 million euros.

During this period, the IPN, which also streamlines the ESA Technology Transfer Network (Technology Broker), mapped 50 technologies developed for space by Portuguese industry, which can be transferred to non-space markets, and successfully supported 10 cases of space-earth technology transfer
