In 1988, the eponymous track from Alain Souchon’s eighth album, Ultra Modern Solitude, was written by the artist marked by his one-month residence in an apartment in Monaco that had been loaned to him. Asked by Patrick Cohen on this subject this Tuesday, November 23 in C to you on France 5, the singer confirmed to have been inspired by his stay in Monaco.
“It is an amazing place, totally outside of all the standards in the world. We end up with people who really live in another world. And … It’s fun on a weekend! But there we stayed (…) for a month. So, after three weeks in Monaco, me … There is something scary. You only see good old women covered in jewels, eating a lot, and everything. Finally, there is something depressing, and so … we did Ultra Modern Solitude !“, joked Alain Souchon, while Anne-Elisabeth Lemoine and her chroniclers were hilarious.
Does not wish to make any generalizations, the artist moderated and supported his point of view: “There are goods everywhere, especially in Monaco. But there is a little scary atmosphere. (…) It’s not just wealth, eh. It’s a lack of … There aren’t many bookstores, it’s a strange world“.
