Toulouse. Portraits of inhabitants in the Raymond VI garden
Warm and musical atmosphere on Saturday afternoon in the Raymond VI garden, for the opening of Dorothée Lebrun’s photo project “Confined Portraits”. Supported by Toulouse City Hall, the exhibition was inaugurated by Pierre Esplugas-Labatut, Deputy Mayor for Museums and Image, in the presence of many residents of the neighborhood. This gallery of 33 portraits, 23 of which are unpublished, displayed in the open air on the garden gates, follows on from a first series of photographs exhibited last June on houses in the Saint-Cyprien district. In the spring of 2020, the artist invited friends, neighbors and passers-by to pose with their favorite accessories during the 6 weeks of confinement, in front of a white canvas installed in front of his house. Look, look, posture, gestures, clothes, accessories and too long hair, testify to the way in which each one went through this very particular period. “This project was born out of a cultural vacuum, boredom and the almost depressive state in which I found myself”, confides the artist. First reporter photographer then still photographer, Dorothée Lebrun, who has lived in Toulouse for ten years, now turns to more artistic and conceptual photography. She is already looking for a place for her future exhibition of portraits around the wearing of a mask. “This time, I wanted to show how the expression and the look change with and without the mask,” she explains.
