RB Salzburg suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat in Lille and are therefore facing a final game for the round of 16 against Seville.
On today’s Champions League evening, RB Salzburg faced Lille away from home. Ideally, the Austrian champions wanted to secure an early round of 16 entry with a win and prevent a final against Sevilla. After a good start for the home side from Lille, Die Salzburger was able to make the duel more open after the initial phase. But after half an hour the ball landed indirectly at Jonathan David, who scored the 1-0.
In the second half, Salzburg found the command more and more, but hardly had any good chances against the well-standing defense of the French. 15 minutes before the end, Lille had the chance to decide, but Bamba, luckily for Salzburg, did not get the ball into the goal. In the end, however, the Salzburg team no longer had the planned idea on the offensive in order to achieve an equalization. Since Seville celebrated a 2-0 win against Wolfsburg in the parallel game, practically anything is still possible in Group G on the last day of the match. Salzburg will host Sevilla FC and still have everything in their own hands.
Barcelona must continue to tremble
In Barcelona, the first CL game for neo-trainer Xavi was on the program, which helped Austria’s Yusuf Demir to make his CL starting eleven debut. After a poor first half hour, Otamendi hammered the ball into the goal after a corner. However, since the ball was already out of goal at the corner kick, the hit did not count. On the part of Barcelona Demir had the best chance shortly before the break when he failed with a nice flick on the crossbar.
A similar picture emerged in the second half. Barcelona had a little more from the game, but really high-caliber chances remained in short supply. Almost 10 minutes before the end, the ball was in goal, but the Araujo goal was denied due to offside. In stoppage time, on the other hand, Seferovic missed the big chance for the winning goal. So the duel ends with a 0-0.
Barcelona on the last day of the match So they face the difficult task of likely having to win in Munich, as Benfica hosted their opponents, who are clearly weaker on paper, in the long-distance duel at home with Dynamo Kiev.
