“Radio Dante” the inmates of Pisa put the Divine Comedy to music
“Radio Dante” is the title of the project conceived and implemented by theater company ‘I Sacchi di Sabbia’ involving 15 prisoners of the Don Bosco Pisa prison who have made a series of three radio plays on the Divine Comedy, broadcast, starting from March, on the radio station Radio Point of Cascina (Pisa).
The project, with the contribution of the Pisa Foundation e Tuscany region he left on March 25 on the occasion of ‘Dantedì’. The musical curation and the podcast edition is edited by Davide Barbafiera of the Campos musical group, for the label Aloch discs.
The students of the theater company were confronted with the immense Dante’s material. Some hellish songs and characters have been chosen that better to foster curiosity and interest. All participants brought a dowry languages and dialects of different origins and they agreed to work on these specificities.
For Francesca Censi of I Sacchi di Sabbia, “the radio media as well as being rather unprecedented in a prison context, lends itself particularly to the needs of this dramatic historical period: not only from the point of view of expression, but also from that of didactic management, putting a focus on sound and voice to be listened to not in proximity, as in the case of a live show, but at a distance “.
The radio broadcasting of the episodes of Radio Dante, made it possible to reach a wider audience, thus making a greater number of people aware of an important work such as that of theater in prison that did not stop during the health emergency.
At the end of the path, on November 25th, the entire cycle of radio plays, presented by Marco Signori of the Scuola Normale di Pisa, will always be broadcast by Punto Radio and will also go to Spotify.
