Nestroy Prize for State Theater and Festival
Culture
The awarding of the most important theater prize in Austria took place on Sunday evening. Among the nominees were eight Salzburg productions and their actors. The State Theater and the Festival were able to score points in several categories.
The Austrian Theater Prize was awarded on Sunday evening in the Theater an der Wien – unlike originally planned, in a celebrated gala, without an audience and without prizewinners on site.
Verena Altenberg as the crowd favorite
The audience award is one of the very special Nestroy awards even in a gala without an audience. After all, it is something like direct feedback from the audience – and this is worthy of the wages of the Pongauerin Verenaberger, who has appeared as a fanatic at her Salzburg Festival for enthusiastic hats.
Lina Beckmann best actress
It was also the festival that provided Lina Beckmann with a stage – for her portrayal in “Richard the Kid and the King”. “Seldom did the art of acting and performance go hand in hand so smoothly,” was the verdict of the jury, which honored Beckmann as the best actress.
Best young actor: Gregor Schulz
The best young actor of the year also has a connection with Salzburg. Gregor Schulz has been a member of the Landestheater’s ensemble since 2016 and has received the Nestroy for his role as Franz Moor in “Die Räuber”.
Nestroy also for Mirjam Klebel
The Hallein-born performance artist Mirjam Klebel choreographed the play “Third Republic (a measurement)” at the Graz Schauspielhaus. SHE received the Nestroy Prize for the best federal state production of the year.
