More than 1.4 million people watched the launch of CNN Portugal | Media Capital
More than 1.4 million people watched the opening hours of CNN Portugal, which arrived on Monday. In the “first 60 minutes of transmission” it was the “most watched” channel among the main competitors, advances Universal McCann (UM).
An analysis of audiences for the debut of CNN Portugal, made by Universal McCann, media agency of the Mediabrands group, a reference that the new channel “reached more than 1.4 million Portuguese people in the first hours of transmission, which corresponds to a shared of 3.9%”.
The new information channel, which replaces TVI24 and is the result of a partnership between Media Capital and CNN, arrives on Monday, November 22, at 9 pm.
“During this time period (9pm – 2.30am), CNN Portugal was the sixth most watched channel in Portugal, just behind general channels, CMTV and Others consumption (residual viewing of unaudited channels and other uses of the television, which includes streaming and consoles) ”, refers to Universal McCann.
“If we look at an average performance of the last week of TVI24 (week 46), it can be inferred that in the same time period (21:00-2:30), the former Media Capital channel was positioned in the 13th position of the most viewed and verified Hmm shared average of 1.1%, something far from the current debut number of CNN Portugal, which, as a result of the interest and curiosity of the Portuguese, reached these values on the first day”, he adds.
CNN’s debut included the return of journalist Judite de Sousa as the pivot chosen for the presentation of CNN Newspaper, the first content broadcast by the channel.
“This was the 27th most watched program of the day, being the most watched among pay TV channels [canais pagos], as it reached a total audience of 984,000 viewers, having registered a shared of 6.5%,” said Universal McCann. As the afternoon progressed, there was a “growing interest” from viewers, who tuned into TVI24 before being replaced by the new channel.
“On this opening day, CNN Portugal’s highest ratings point took place in the first five minutes of the broadcast, when more than half a million Portuguese were tuned in to Media Capital’s new channel,” said UM.
