During the European Waste Reduction Week, from November 20 to 28, several events are organized across the country to learn about and promote the means of reducing the waste that everyone produces. And on a daily basis, the Metropolis does everything it can to enable us to concretely reduce our waste.

Composting to reduce the weight of garbage cans

The Metropolis is developing composting for the greatest number of people with various services:

• the distribution of composters for people living in single-family homes. Around 1,500 composters will be distributed during the European Waste Reduction Week to the inhabitants of 9 municipalities: Charly, Rillieux-la-Pape, Vaulx-en-Velin, Montanay, Neuville-sur-Saône, Lyon 3e, Villeurbanne, Écully and Champagne-au-Mont d’Or.

• the installation of shared composters in condominiums, neighborhoods, schools and colleges. Several new sites will be inaugurated during the week:
  • Albigny, square Villevert, Saturday 20/11 at 10 a.m.,
  • Dardilly, Jardin de la Bretonnière, Saturday 20/11 at 3 p.m.,
  • Lyon 07, crossing of rue Lortet and boulevard Yves Farges, Tuesday 23/11, 6.30 p.m.,
  • Villeurbanne, Gustave Prost residence, Thursday 25/11 at 6 p.m.,
  • Lyon 05, quai des étroits Thursday 25/11 at 6 p.m.,
  • La Clavelière College in Oullins on 23/11,
  • Simone Veil College in Saint-Priest on 11/24,

• the installation of compost bins accessible to everyone in the street, like glass silos. 150 terminals have already been deployed in a test district: Lyon 7e.

Reduction of packaging, second life of products, fight against food waste …

The Metropolis also provides support to local stakeholders committed to waste reduction with, for example:

• the Mouvement de palier and Zero waste Lyon associations are mobilizing in Lyon 9th district to unite all residents and traders on waste reduction,
