Jacques Dubochet presented the DCI on Monday
Jacques Dubochet surprised the result of the partnership between EPFL and the Universities of Lausanne and Geneva: The Dubochet Center for Imaging presented.
the essentials in brief
- Jacques Dubochet is enjoying the “Dubochet Center for Imaging” in Lausanne on Monday.
- The building is the result of the partnership between EPFL and the Universities of Lausanne and Geneva.
The Dubochet Center for Imaging (DCI) was presented in Lausanne on Monday afternoon. It is the result of the collaboration between EPFL and the Universities of Lausanne and Geneva. In the building, new researchers are working on the subject of cryo-electron microscopy.
Cryomicroscopy, for which Jacques Dubochet received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry (2017), allows molecules to appear in three dimensions without change. The samples are determined in this process and then analyzed with a microscope with very high resolution. This technology is revolutionary and helps medicine fight cancer or neurological diseases.
Jacques Dubochet introduces DCI
Jacques Dubochet said at the presentation of the DCI: “You cannot imagine how an old man like me would feel when such a center opened.” The 79-year-old indulges briefly in the past and looks at his career. From his “bad school days” to his current job, which has opened up “a new way”.
The rector of the University of Lausanne Frédéric Herman sees important future discoveries with the DCI. In the opinion of Martin Vetterli, President of EPFL, the Jacques Dubochet Center will be “one of the best in the world”.
