A collision between the Salzburg local railway and a car occurred on Monday at the level crossing in Elisabethstraße in the Salzburg district of Elisabeth-Vorstadt. The handlebars were only slightly injured, but the vehicle was badly damaged.
A 36-year-old Slovak was driving his car on Elisabethstrasse. According to his own statements, he looked at his navigation system because of his ignorance of the location and overlooked the fact that he was approaching a level crossing. Immediately before the intersection, he heard a loud horn, whereupon he saw the approaching train and initiated an emergency stop. The train driver of the local railway also initiated an emergency stop, but could no longer prevent the collision, reported the police.
The 36-year-old’s vehicle was lifted up by the force of the impact and dragged along for around ten meters. The driver only suffered minor injuries to his right hand and his car was badly damaged. The train driver and around 30 passengers on the local train were unharmed. An alcohol test was negative.
