According to Prague, the expansion of Gymnázium Na Zatlance is a response to growing demand
Thanks to the attic, Na Zatlance will create a full-fledged fifth floor with new professional classrooms, technical facilities, cabinets, etc. In addition, the wing of the school building in the street of the same name will have an outdoor elevator that will allow barrier-free movement between all floors. “Insulation of the attic and ceiling had to be solved also in order to optimize the energy performance of the building, which will have a positive effect on reducing operating costs,” added Vít Šimral (Pirates).
According to him, today “Zatlanka” is one of the most innovative and progressive grammar schools not only in Prague, but also in the whole Czech Republic and possibly Central Europe. It is therefore said that the costly investment in it is not accidental, the capital is preparing or plans to expand other schools with various extensions and superstructures. “The grammar school definitely deserves it, because we still monitor the monitoring number of applications. Both in the traditional and in the newer alternative direction, which in the future shows what an innovative grammar school could look like, “said the councilor.
“I graduated from Zatlance in 2006. And it was at this time that new teaching methods, and not only teaching, began to be promoted there. Blocks were created that directed the students to a certain specialization, and in the weeks before graduation we focused only on graduation subjects. As students, we also voted on a possible postponement of the beginning of the school day to 8:45, which unfortunately did not pass, “recalls Kamila, one of the graduates, according to whom the material equipment of the school was average at the time. “With the advent of innovative methods, the overall atmosphere at the school, which was very traditional, hierarchical when I started, also changed positively,” Kamila added.
School also for those outside Prague
Councilor Šimral sees the Na Zatlance Grammar School for the coming years as “one of the key institutions of grammar school education in the western half of Prague”. It will undoubtedly be a choice for many people outside Prague who are interested in Prague high schools, of which there are more and more. “We have been cooperating with my colleague Vácha from the Central Bohemian Region for a long time on a common concept for the development of the secondary school system. Only a third of students live in the Central Bohemian Region at Prague grammar schools. That is why we are considering, for example, the construction of a new grammar school in the Černošice area, or on the eastern edge of the metropolis near a good railway connection, “he specified the municipality’s policy. The aim is for pupils in 9th grade to be able to choose the “school of their dreams” as much as possible.
The intention for greater integration of the educational systems of both regions is part of the proposal for a new joint memorandum, which coincidentally also does not agree with the ruling coalition in Prague. “Unlike many existing documents, we assume that the Central Bohemian Region does not have a hole inside and that Prague has no fog beyond its borders,” commented Deputy Mayor Petr Hlaváček (United Forces / TOP 09), according to which they should be key “Intersections” of two regions with a total of almost three million inhabitants of housing and transport.
Prague high schools will present the next year’s Schola Pragensis trade fair in detail. It starts this Thursday and, just like last year, this year will be only online due to the coronavirus epidemic. So I expect great interest from Councilor Šimral. Last year, over 70,000 people signed up for the first two days of the fair.
