A new Catholic kindergarten is being built in Debrecen
The family-friendly country will be strengthened by the unification of political leaders, churches and families, the secretary of state responsible for church and ethnic relations said at a foundation ceremony at the Roman Catholic kindergarten in Debrecen on Tuesday in the garden of the Incarnation Parish.
Miklós Soltész said that the government will continue to support families: in 2022 HUF 350 billion will be spent on family support, three and a half times more than in 2010.
Based on the personal income tax refund, an additional HUF 60 billion will be returned to 1,900,000 families, the Secretary of State added.
Miklós Soltész said that the Roman Catholic diocese of Debrecen and Nyíregyháza had already played a large part in the great task of supporting families. In recent years, a kindergarten has been or is being built in Mátészalka, Nyírbátor, Nyíregyháza, Debrecen-Józsa, and now in the middle of a housing estate in Debrecen.
The Hungarian government is supporting the investment of about 542 million forints of the member kindergartens of the Szent József Kindergarten, Primary School, Gymnasium and College in Debrecen with 470 million forints, the Secretary of State said.
He also said that in the last 10-11 years, with the support of HUF 120 billion from the government, 11,000 crèche and kindergarten places have been created within the framework of the Reformed, Catholic and Lutheran kindergarten development programs.
The Catholic Church is renovating and building 200 kindergartens, two thirds of which have already been completed, Miklós Soltész noted.
Lajos Kósa, the Fidesz Member of Parliament for the region, recalled that when the government reduced compulsory schooling from 18 to 16, it reduced the compulsory schooling age from 5 to 3.
The government has assessed how it can help disadvantaged children, and it has been confirmed that the sooner a child encounters the education system, the more likely he or she is to be able to overcome those deficiencies, perhaps brought home, in any way, the pro-government politician added.
Family-friendly measures have also yielded results, said Lajos Kósa, citing the results of a European survey, according to which the number of the most disadvantaged families in Hungary has decreased in the last ten years.
István Puskás (Fidesz-KDNP), Deputy Mayor of Culture of Debrecen, called the way the government, local governments and churches work together to build the future as exemplary in laying the foundation stone.
“When we build Debrecen, we are building the Hungarian nation,” he said, emphasizing that the city’s intellectual radiation and economic power also have an impact on its environment.
Bishop Ferenc Palánki of Debrecen-Nyíregyháza County said they did not want to maintain institutions, but to preach the gospel: “God loves me.”
Kindergartens are being built to bear witness to this love for those who entrust their children to them, ”he said to the bishop, then blessed and consecrated the foundation stone and the time capsule placed in it.
The four-room kindergarten, which can accommodate a hundred children, will be completed next September.
