Renat Suleimanov, member of the State Duma Committee on Agrarian Issues, said in an interview URA.RUwhy Russia imports products from abroad.
“A large amount of potatoes are imported from abroad, because the cost of this agricultural product will be lower if you buy it in Egypt or other countries than you do in our country,” the expert shared.
He clarified that now in Russia the consumer cooperation system, which used to be engaged in procurement, practically does not work. According to Suleimanov, in the country itself, production is lost, since about half of the vegetables are grown in subsidiary plots, and “people in the countryside are becoming less and less.”
“There are problems with vegetables, and we see their prices go up. In the production of beef and milk, we are far behind even the indicators of the Soviet Union, ”said Suleimanov.
At the same time, he added that so far Russia can only provide itself with grain, partly with pork and poultry. The parliamentarian expressed the opinion that for the absolute provision of the state with its own products, it is necessary to solve the problems in the agricultural sector.
Earlier it was reported: Ministry of Agriculture Dmitry Patrushev declaredthat the state can increase support for producers of vegetables and meat in order to prevent price increases.
