Corona: Empty streets in Salzburg – Austria in lockdown again
Again strong exit restrictions in Austria and thus largely empty streets like here on Monday in Salzburg: Shops, cafes and other localities that are not absolutely necessary according to the government will remain closed. The authorities are urging people dying to work from home if possible. So-called “non-essential stores” should not open for 10 days. People are only allowed to leave their homes here for a limited number of reasons, e.g. B. to go to work, to buy essentials or to take a walk. Salzburg business people take the news with a certain resignation, as the expected Christmas receipts are likely to decline again, as for example souvenir dealer Alexander Pribil says here: O-Ton: “In the next three weeks I expect a profit loss of about 70 to 80 percent. .. of course we thought that this winter would be normal again, and now I have stocked up on goods and today is the first day of the ban and suddenly there are no more people. ” He is also not particularly satisfied with the government policy: Original sound: “I think you should have done something more than a month ago. You should have pressed the stop button or survived the hard lockdown”. The Austrian government has also announced that it will make vaccination against the corona virus compulsory from February 1st. Many Austrians are skeptical of vaccinations, a view that is supported by the clearly right-wing “Freedom Party”, the third largest party in parliament.
