Chewing gum 500: Håvard (25) got the idea in the shower
We are far at sea, on the way to Denmark and Hirtshals. Even though it’s been a good half hour since we left land in Larvik, it’s only as far as the cloud of smoke has settled on deck.
It’s not emissions from Color Line’s Superspeed boat we’re talking about, but the exhaust from 10 hefty sports cars that continue to crackle with heat.
– I have always been a big fan of Gumball 3000, a giant and worldwide car race. But this costs hundreds of thousands to join, and you should like to be a well-known profile as well. It will be enough with the dream for most people, but then I come up with the idea in the shower: How about making a slightly more popular, Norwegian version?
It tells Håvard Melby, who is a hard-boiled car enthusiast, and one of the initiators of what could of course be called Chewing Gum 500. In other words, a Norwegian version of Gumball 3000.
Immediate success
– First of all, I had to call the craziest friend I know, to hear if he got ignited on the idea. Not surprisingly, he did.
– Clearly! Here it was just to go all in, print up sweaters, T-shirts and the Chewing Gum logo on the car. So far, we are a group of friends, most of them from Porsgrunn, who have started the first trips, says Mats Clemmetsen, and adds:
– We have chosen to invest a little in social media, to share our car passion further. Hers became the concept immediately and successfully. In just two days, we got over 2,500 followers on Instagram, now the number has multiplied. It’s really fun to see all the commitment – and that people will follow us when we are on tour.
500 kilometers in Denmark
Now we in Broom have also participated in the Chewing Gum tour. This time the trip goes to Denmark and more specifically Aalborg. Just like in Gumball 3000, there is a tight program.
– Yes, in addition to driving many cars, via well-thought-out and entertaining routes, we also have to do a lot of other things. After all, the social is extremely important. Between battles must visit everything from a large horse farm, yes you heard right, to ride a little go-kart. There will also be many stops along the way for the picture and much more, says Håvard, who together with Mads leads the journey.
The number 500 is also not random, the mentioned tells that we have to drive 500 kilometers, around the pancake country.
Took the chance to rent out the dream car – was a huge success
Expensive cars, but hard work
On this trip, it is a close-knit group of friends who pose with a bit of a car fleet. We are talking everything from brand new BMW M3, to hefty Audi RS models and Mercedes-AMG GT R.
– Even though these are cars that cost a good deal, it is important to say that everyone here has worked hard for it. This is what we have been dreaming of ever since we cycled past car shops growing up. With many jobs and hard priorities, most things work out, says Håvard – who himself drives a black Audi RS 3.
– A good example of just that is another friend of ours from Porsgrunn. He chose to move home again to save money, thus adding food, the image dream, to.
By the way, the 26-year-old drives the fastest car in the following: A Solarbeam Mercedes-AMG GT R.
– It’s crazy! With 585 hp and 700 Nm on the Danish motorway standard, it is difficult to stay afloat. But we just have to do it, especially given the new rules here.
Mads aims for the Danish police to now have the authority to confiscate the confiscation of your car, if you are caught driving while intoxicated.

Hailed by pleasant Danes
Through narrow streets in Aalborg, it is almost a bit magical to see the row of the 10 sports cars that are part of this year’s Chewing Gum Tour.
The commitment among pleasant Danes is also nothing to say. Here there are big smiles and thumbs up. Some get so eager that it almost feels like a tribute.
– It’s simply a kick. Especially when you are at the front of the line and see all the cars in the mirror. Hearing the roar of everyone in the acceleration field on the highway is like childish and fun every time, Mads smiles behind the wheel of his bright yellow AMG GT R.
AMG GT R on the track: Join the test at almost 300 km / h!
Aim higher
– Have you made any other exciting plans in the future?
– Absolutely. We are already planning a European trip next summer. We plan to clink with France and driving in the Alps. Now this winter it will also definitely be a trip to the mountains. But before that, we have the last day here in Aalborg, Håvard concludes.
– By the way. We have plans to have a drive out in the spring, here anyone who wants to hang out can. So we are really looking forward to that.
– Will it be a Chewing Gum 3000 trip eventually as well?
– Good idea, we have to make it happen!
