The international campaign “16 days against violence against women” begins on November 25th, International Day against Violence against Women, and ends on December 10th, International Day of Human Rights. During this time it should be made clear that violence against women is a human rights violation that is all too often violated and taboo, writes the government. Thousands of people around the world supported this campaign with various actions.

These actions drew attention to the extent and the various forms of violence against women and point out the lasting consequences of violence for those affected themselves, but also for society as a whole. The forms of violence range from feminicide to psychological violence and sexual harassment.

A message for the home

“Domestic violence does not come in the bag” – this slogan adorns the paper bags in which local bakeries pack their bread and are served over their sales counters. With the bread bags, the message is to be carried to where violence predominantly takes place, namely at home. The action calls on society to look when violence occurs against women and their children. Only if the issue reaches the general public can violence against women and children be stopped, writes the government.

The campaign is a cooperation project between the Liechtenstein Women’s Refuge and the Office for Social Services, Department of Equal Opportunities. SHE IS supported by the Safe Liechtenstein Association and Amnesty International Principality of Liechtenstein.
