League leaders Red Bull Salzburg broke two series in a 0-0 draw against Admira in the Bundesliga on Saturday. In addition to the first unsuccessful Bundesliga home game in 2021, the “Bulls” also failed to score for the first time in 43 Bundesliga home games. While that was “a cool story” for Admira coach Andreas Herzog, Salzburg coach Matthias Jaissle was nevertheless “satisfied with the game”.
The German, who celebrated his return to the coaching bench after a corona infection, saw his team “dominant in all areas”. After the draws in Altach and Ried in October, the draw against Admira was the third loss of points in the last five league games against a team from the lower half of the table. “Of course we want to win the games,” said Jaissle, who took some positive things from the game: “The extreme dominance and the ability to switch after losing the ball were great again today.”
Jaissle not dissatisfied with performance, Admira won a point “wonderful”
One point of criticism from Jaissle was, of course, the inadequate evaluation of the chances, due to which Admira was able to take a point from Salzburg despite all the dominance. Brenden Aaronson had the winning goal on his feet several times. “We had an extremely high number of chances to win the game. I should have scored at least one goal,” said the American self-critical of “Sky”. Coach Jaissle was “not worried at all”. “Because the many chances that die in this and also the last games speak for our dominance. We finally have to reward ourselves for that.”
The coach is therefore already looking positively towards the Champions League game on Tuesday: “The boys are so confident that they head to Lille with their heads held high.” Salzburg could fix the early knockout stage there. Especially because a game of judgment on the last matchday at home against Sevilla will now take place in front of empty ranks because of the lockdown.
The protagonists of Admira were of course very pleased with the point win in Salzburg. “Today’s point is wonderful and was not included in the calculation,” said goalkeeper Andreas Leitner, who made a large contribution to the 0-0 goal with a few saves. Herzog praised an outstanding defense in which, in addition to Leitner, the two central defenders Niko Datkovic and Sebastian Bauer and sixth Lukas Malicsek had stood out. Although his team, which was in ninth place after Saturday, also found good switching situations, Herzog did not mourn an alleged victory. “It would be presumptuous to say that I would have believed in the Lucky Punch, but there was a small hope.”
