TOULOUSE

Who from Marseille or Toulouse will triumph?

Sugar Mizzy November 21, 2021

The last square of the Trophée des Villes has delivered its verdict, we know the poster for the final. This Sunday, November 21 at Grande Synthe, Marseille will face Toulouse for the title. An indecisive encounter between two big cars.

Toulouse-Marseille, a high-level poster between two very prominent teams on this Trophée des Villes. But also a remake of the 2018 final, at the end of which it was the Bouches-du-Rhône team who had the trophy. In 2021, the two teams meet again in the fight for the title. Toulouse and Marseille, two teams that have the versatility of their strength, but with very different backgrounds.

We present to you the two finalists (and we give you our predictions).

Toulouse impresses

Context : Finalist of the last edition in 2019, Toulouse has been revolving around the title for a long time. Always with the Faurel cousins, the representatives of the Ville Rose arrived in Grande-Synthe in the peloton of favorites. The level displayed during the competition only reinforced this status.

Journey : The Violets really flew over their entry into the running, still winning by the score of 4-0 (at the expense of Moulins and Pornic). In the quarterfinals, Ajaccio of Kevin Philipson managed to take a point in Toulouse, winning a doublet. The Haute-Garonne trio took immediate revenge by bending the triplet, in just five months and 29 minutes of play (!). Against Metz in half, the Toulouse winners of the two doublets were pushed to the starting shot. After a good shooting performance by the whole team (only one miss), the salvation came from a final bolt from Diego Ivanovitch.

The team: Led by Faurels, Bryan and Paul, the players from Haute-Garonne have made shooting their strength. They demonstrated it by being intractable during the doublets, as well as on this starting shot in the semi-finals. The Pink City presents a versatile and skilful team, complemented by the experience Rocky Rathqueber and the young Diego Ivanovitch. Toulouse arrived in the final sure of its strength and with the firm intention of playing on its qualities.

Marseille confirms expectations

Context : Arriving straight from the cradle of pétanque, the team representing Bouches-du-Rhône is still expected at the Trophée des Villes. This year, the Marseillais did not arrive with any other goal than the last four. Winner in 2018, the Phocéens had imposed themselves with a completely different team of which only Jordan Clodic is recaptured. Three years later, Marseille can win the title again.

Journey : Unlike their opponents from Toulouse, the course of the Phocaeans was more strewn with pitfalls. After disposing of Palavas-les-Flots in the first round, Marseille beat the Valence-Romans team and their triplet of world champions (Le Boursicaud-Hureau-Lamour). The players of 13 then took the best on the tenant of the title Clermont before outclassing Cahors (4-0).

The team: Coached by Xavier Bec, the Marseille training plays on its complementarity and versatility. Regular shooter, Mayron Baudino proved to be adept at the point when it was necessary, while the “master pointer” Richard Hovaguimian saved a few shooting situations. Finally, Anthony Cortes like the kid Jordan Clodic are able to exploit. If they are consistent and succeed at their level in the final, it will be difficult to resist the Marseillais.
