The mansion and the church of Manolache Negruzzi, the Monument of the Heroes from Târnova and the Mansion with park of Victor Dombrovski – Ziarul de Garda
The pandemic caused by COVID-19 made us see with different eyes the Republic of Moldova and its beautiful places, most of them unknown and unexplored enough. Sabin Rufa, a young student from Chisinau, who is now studying in France, has visited no less than 12 architectural monuments in the country in recent years, and in the next editions of ZdG he will tell you about them and try to convince you to go . to visit them.
In today’s edition we present, through Sabin’s eyes, details about the mansion, the church of Manolache Negruzzi and the Monument of the Heroes from Târnova, as well as the Park Mansion with Victor Dombrovski from Rediul Mare.
Manolache Negruzzi’s mansion is an architectural monument of national importance, built between the mid-1800s and early 1900s and located in the village of Tarnova in Donduseni district. The whole complex includes many buildings, spread over the entire territory of the former Negruzzi estate. As you turn left on the national route, at the beginning of the valley you will find some cellars and the former hospital building, which although in very poor condition, retains the original structure and architecture. Going down further, visitors can reach the building that was once the mansion, now a wedding hall, its appearance being damaged with the application of plaster and damage to exterior decorations. However, the classicist-style façade retains, at least, its original shape. The objects that I found on the territory and that impressed are in “Old cemetery” of the village, on the hill opposite the one on which the mansion is located. The church built in 1848, for the services attended by Manolache Negruzzi, the uncle of the writer Constantin Negruzzi, is still in very good condition, with services still being held in it. Moreover, in the same cemetery (70-80 meters further up the church hill) there is a monument in memory of the Romanian heroes who died in the war for the unification of the nation (World War I, 1916-1918).
Victor Dombrovski’s mansion with park is an architectural monument of national importance, located in the village of Rediul Mare, Dondușeni district. The central building of the mansion was built in 1912 in the style of English cottages, the park being planted 7 years earlier. During the Soviet period, the complex was a hospital for tuberculosis, the interior being damaged by the addition of uncharacteristic elements, such as terracotta, plank flooring or thick paint on the door ornaments. Although it belonged (at least at one point) to the Moldovan Railways and was protected by the state, after the hospital was abandoned, the building was robbed of stoves, radiators or building materials for the annex building. You can also admire the general architecture of the building, where the rooms are built around the living room, the latter retains the original home. Outside, the multiple alleys all lead to different doors of the mansion and you can still see the frame of the covered terrace that connected the building to the park. Planned by the well-known horticulturist IV Vladislavski-Padalko, the dendrological park is considered by the Academy of Sciences of Moldova as one of the most successful landscapes in small territories. In recent years, many species of decorative plants have disappeared from the territory.
Having become a divisional general, Dombrovski was mayor of Bucharest, saving many villagers from deportations in the 1940s, when I took him to Romania to take refuge. Under the windows of the village church, built by his father-in-law, there are still tombs of Dombrovski’s relatives, dating from the 19th century, the inscriptions mentioning decorations in military campaigns from 1819. Immediately next to the church is the old school building, built by the boyar Dombrovski. but which operated until the time of the USSR.
Sabin Rufa is studying Economics, Politics and International Studies in the UK, but is now doing a one-year Erasmus exchange at the Pantheon-Sorbonne in Paris. He is passionate about traveling, especially in Romania, which he loves to discover with friends or family.
PS Let’s rediscover Moldova together!
I am sure that even in the localities or in the areas where you live, there are beautiful places that are worth hearing about. In this way we challenge you to take the example of Sabin and not to describe the architectural monuments in your locality, monuments or beautiful areas of the country that impressed you and that you visited. We urge you not to leave the impressions you left there, thus urging other people to visit them, in order to make them as well known as possible.
