When you started your new job as Managing Director of the Zurich Open to the World on January 1, 2021, you said that it would give you a bit of security: As the new editor-in-chief of the NZZ, did you not have enough security before?
I really enjoyed the NZZ. In the newsroom, which I managed, we had a very well-positioned team as well. The NZZ’s consistent focus on digital also convinced me.
Why don’t you continue to work in this great job?
For me there were two main reasons. One was communication, which has always fascinated me. The other is the content and topics that already moved me as a journalist at the NZZ and previously at the “Zürichsee-Zeitung”, such as aviation, location politics, finances, economics or start-ups. When I had the opportunity to take over the management of the Zurich Open-minded Committee, it was the chance to combine the two together with the establishment of my own communications agency. Besides, I can’t just preach entrepreneurship and then back down when a door opens.
