Beatrizes from BTT Loulé / Elevis highlighted in the Portuguese Cyclocross Cup
Two young athletes from BTT Loulé / Elevis were highlighted in the Portuguese Cyclocross Cup, played this Sunday in Melgaço.
Beatriz Sousa (BTT Loulé / Elevis) was the strongest in the joint junior and under-23 female category, cementing the top spot in the respective category, as did junior Rafael Sousa (Guilhabreu BTT) in the male sector.
In the cadet races, Beatriz Guerra (BTT Loulé / Elevis) and Miguel Pereira (Santa Cruz / Botelhos.pt) were the winners before the men’s and women’s races, respectively.
Mário Costa and Joana Monteiro, both from the Axpo / FirstBike Team / Vila do Conde team, prevailed in the elite competitions in what was the second stage of the Portuguese Cyclocross Cup.
A week after the start of the Cup, in Abrantes, a national cyclocross community moved to the far north of the country. The proximity of Melgaço to Galicia also seduced as teams across the border, incorporating diversity and available to races . Even so, the Portuguese maintained their primacy in the elite category.
The national champion Mário Costa was the strongest in the men’s competition, shuffling the overall score. Vítor Santos, also from Axpo / FirsBike Team / Vila do Conde, started in command, but with today’s second place, 9 seconds behind the winner, he gave the first overall position to Mário Costa, although he was forgotten in the same spot. Jorge Magalhães (W52-FC Porto) was third, at 10 seconds, and occupies the same position in the overall Cup.
João Cruz (Axpo / FirstBike Team / Vila do Conde) was once again the best under-23 on track, reinforcing this status also in the category ranking.
Joana Monteiro won her second consecutive victory in the Portuguese Cyclocross Cup, imposing herself alone and strengthening her command of the general classification. The Minho runner cut the isolated goal, 2m19s before the Galician Isabel Castro (Condadobike AD). Leandra Gomes (Axpo / FirstBike Team / Vila do Conde) closed the podium, at 3m18s.
Among the veterans, the masters 30 Augusto Midão (Rompe Trilhos / Ajpcar) and Eva Ortega (Biciosos Rías Baixas), the masters 40 Moisés Leboso (GD Diez) and Virgínia Moreira (Saertex Portugal / Edaetech), the master 50 António Passos stood out. (Rompe Trilhos / Ajpcar) and master 60 Antonio González (CC Salvaterra de Miño).
Galician Xian Alvariño (CC Pontearas) was the best in the youth race.
The third competition of the Portuguese Cyclocross Cup will take place in Vouzela, on December 12th.
