Weather: “Snow bomb” in Munich – experts say when it will be time
Cold, gray skies, repeated precipitation. The weather is currently living up to the reputation of November. But the situation could soon change – towards winter.
Update from November 18, 2:53 p.m .: The first snow in the lowlands, and thus also in Munich – it is imminent. Already on Wednesday, November 17th wetter.net-Meteorologist Dominik Jung announced a “snow bomb” (see first report below). Now Jan Schenk, weather expert from The weather channel Germany, after. “Wednesday, Thursday and Friday there is a lot of snow, up to 15 centimeters,” said Schenk.

“It really snows in.” This is certainly for heights of 500 meters and above, which includes Munich. According to the forecasts of the meteorologists, snow in and around Munich is as good as certain for the first Advent (November 28). Even the days after that promise more snowfall and low temperatures, so keep going.

Munich – The weather, one might think, is adapting to the currently dark Corona situation in Munich, Bavaria and Germany. The sky stays gray all day long, and it keeps dripping. Classic November mood too. But at least current maps promise sunshine at least one day a week. But much more exciting: weather models see a real winter onset in Munich – and even name a specific day for it.

But step by step. At first it stays gray and cold in Munich. According to wetteronline, temperatures will peak at just seven degrees on Thursday, November 18. At night, the values then drop to three degrees. But at least: On Friday, the weather portal currently sees a whopping eight hours of sunshine – including the maximum. At the peak, the temperatures then reach ten degrees, at night the thermometer drops to one degree. On the weekend the gray-cloudy autumn weather then back again. But next week a winter onset is looming.

Like graduate meteorologist Dominik Jung von wetter.net reported, the ECMWF weather model (European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts) sees a “snow bomb” coming to Munich on Friday next week (November 26th). The model sees large parts of Central Europe, from Berlin to Paris and Prague under – at least a thin – blanket of snow. A real “snow bomb”, according to Jung, should, however, await large parts of Bavaria. According to current calculations, Munich then expects a whopping 13 centimeters of fresh snow. In the direction of the Alps, it should now be significantly more.

But be careful: Jung himself names the ECMWF snow forecasts as not too accurate, and the forecast is very far in the future. Nevertheless: “Definitely a nice weather map for us winter friends,” Jung concluded.
