Urban green in Pisa: the ‘Give a tree’ project is underway
Increase the city’s tree heritage by promoting the donation and planting of trees dedicated to one’s love. This is what the project specification provides ‘Give a tree’ approved in recent days by the Pisan city council.

The project can be private citizens, associations, companies, private non-profit organizations and schools who will submit a specific written request. The species to be planted must be agreed in advance with the Green and Urban Furniture Office of the Municipality of Pisa, which will evaluate the most suitable species according to the environmental and landscape characteristics of the planting site. The choice will be mainly oriented on native plants and characteristics of the local flora, even if the partial use of alien species is not excluded as long as they are suitable for the pedoclimatic environment and the characteristics of the city of Pisa.
After planting, the applicant undertakes to guarantee the necessary cultural care for the 3 subsequent years, such as emergency irrigation, fertilization, pruning and anything else necessary to keep the specimen in good vegetative conditions. In the event that the tree is dry in the three-year period, the applicant also undertakes to build the specimen with a new one with similar characteristics. After three years, the plants will become part of the municipal tree heritage.
Once planted, one can be installed commemorative plate on one of the stakes of the tree, with the indication of the name of the loved one to whom it is dedicated.
