Eight privets for the San Martino viewpoint, the open space in front of Castel Sant’Elmo and the Certosa from which you can enjoy one of the most beautiful views of Naples. It is the gift to the city on the occasion of the Tree Festival, which is celebrated today in Italy, by a group of citizens. They died, bought and planted, in and plant institutions that were engaged in an operation of green regeneration associations in the city: Gazebo Verde, civic committee Vomero, Acmè Napoli, Davvero Donne. «The initiative – says Maria Teresa Ercolanese, of Gazebo Verde – was born to restore a minimum of decoration to a space as beautiful as it is neglected and in need of redevelopment. Trees are a first contribution ». In the summer, Gazebo Verde and the others had already announced the planting of a well-known privet in via Cilea, to replace plants that were now dead, and about a year ago of two thorns in piazza Fuga. The appointment for those who want to participate in the welcome ceremony for the eight privets is at 11 in San Martino. At 10.30, however, a plant in memory of Giovanni Falcone will be planted in Piazza Municipio as part of the Tree Festival. «The event – informs a note from Ciro Lungo, the commander of the forest police of Campania – is part of the environmental education project“ A tree for the future ”. Federico II University celebrates the Tree Festival once with two days – today and tomorrow – in the botanical gardens of Naples and Portici. The protagonists of the 2021 edition are the olive tree and the camphor. In addition to the educational activities and the artistic kermesse, there will be a small exhibition of companies dedicated to the marketing of plants, natural products and what is necessary for the care and maintenance of greenery.
The other interventions
In the Via Foria complex, young trees will be donated to those who request them in order to increase the urban green. In Portici a camphor will be planted in the areas in front of the Bourbon castle. On Vesuvius 1300 trees were planted after the fires of 2017. The Festival is also an opportunity for a reflection on the state of care and maintenance of greenery in Naples by various associations: WWF, Legambiente, Green Italia, Porto Salvo Committee and others. They propose to the new municipal administration an action based on the seven essential points. One of them is the immediate approval of the city green regulation, which the associations had drawn up some time ago and handed over to the previous municipal administration. “Naples – they say – is the only major Italian city that still lacks this regulation.” Furthermore, the associations arbo sito, that the census of the heritage is terminated and that it is published online on the website of the Municipality of Naples, “with geoferenced, innovative information tools for interaction between the public heritage and the institution”. They also hope for “the strengthening of the green sector in the public administration and in the city with well-trained agronomists, landscape architects, naturalists and gardeners to replace those who have retired”. According to the associations, the abolition of the maximum discount criterion in design and execution tenders, in favor of the technically most advantageous offer criterion, is also fundamental. In the background there is the theme of the use of the huge resources allocated about a year ago by the Metropolitan City of Naples for the green regional capital: 15 million euros.
