Cosmism in St. Petersburg: the Russian Museum showed unusual works of Russian artists
Cosmism in the Russian Museum. 180 works, both already loved by the public and not so famous painters. It seems, finally, a well-deserved orbit of audience attention.
Familiar artists open up from unexpected sides. But, how else could natures sensitive to time act.
“With the discoveries that took place in science, philosophy, it is no longer possible to paint pictures the way they wrote in the 19th century. The world is understood differently. The relationship between the earth and the universe is different, ”said Evgenia Petrova, deputy director for research at the State Russian Museum.
Cosmism is certainly not about flying to the stars. There are more than one decade before them. For example, it makes Konstantin Yuon, a portrait master, work, to depict people on new planets. And the founder of Suprematism, Kazemir Malevich, inspired by the works of Tsiolkovsky, depicts the future houses of “earthlings”, which the pioneer of the avant-garde himself calls “planites.” Why is there? Classic biblical plots and the life of the hinterland are also reasoning on the topic.
Modern painting requiring scrupulous consideration here, in the Russian Museum, is being replaced against their background, it seems so obvious by Kuzma Petrov, obvious. But he is not an accidental figure in outer space. Is his perception of the earth and spherical perspective exactly the expression? a concept with which he himself linked his work with science.
Here are some quotes from Petrov-Vodkin’s reasoning: “Migration to the wider area is over, there is only one top left for the spatial well-being of peoples. And a directional winner who will regulate the heat and cold of the interplanetary paths and “watch” Mars. ”
The light of distant planets attracted the artists of “Amaravella”. The group was formed in the 20s of the last century, inspired by science and mystical creativity of Roerich. The canvases were delivered to St. Petersburg from the Museum of Cosmonautics in Moscow.
“These paintings were in different collections, in private collections. Sometimes they were with the relatives of these artists. In the end, all people will migrate to the far-off worlds. And the earth will remain a single museum. You see, cosmonautics is associated with philosophy, insight, ”noted Natalya Artyukhina, director of the Moscow Museum of Cosmonautics.
The delight of discoveries quickly faded. Add some amaravellians for their futuristic insights. Add to camps. They preferred not to display the pictures of the future. But in our time it was exhibited with pride. The canvases are in and of themselves in the space of blue walls. Works here are from the collections not only of the Russian Museum, but also from Moscow, Tver, Novosibirsk.
“This is not a purely science-centered philosophy, it is very tied to Russian religiosity, to Russian mysticism, and maybe this is not such an extensively researched concept,” said Yegor Mogilevsky, a senior researcher in the painting department of the 19th and 20th centuries.
Pavel Filonov also investigates his attempts. The artist stands apart in the exhibition. The museum has the largest collection of works by the master of “analytical painting”, but this time they also presented such rare graphics.
And it really turns out, space is like a presentiment. The Russian Museum managed to collect one of the largest exhibitions dedicated to our country. The topic is relevant. After all, history really goes in a circle and now flights to the stars cause genuine interest and excitement.
