It was pure coincidence that mother Eveline and daughter Isabel van den Broek took part in this election. “A customer pointed it out to us. It was already in full swing when we followed us anyway”, Isabel says in front of the camera of Broadcasting Gelderland.

And so the ball started rolling. With 650 votes they eventually started to get the votes from all of the Netherlands. “And that for a snack bar in a hamlet”, Isabel adds.

Her mother Eveline thinks she has an explanation for this. “I sometimes say: here in Speuld everything is still as it should be. People here look around each other, greet each other, do things for each other. That is something very beautiful to which we also contribute.”

In addition to the votes, a 9.65 for service, quality and ambiance.

The Garderenseweg, the main road in Speuld, has been closed for months due to road works. Yet people still managed to find the snack bar. “It’s just really special that people come and we’ve had a lot of support,” says Isabel.

To celebrate the win, everyone received free soft serve ice cream on Saturday between 2 and 5 pm. “We could also have done a frikandel, but we are one of the few places where you can also get soft serve ice cream in the fall and winter. How delicious is that!”
