Red Bull Salzburg only scored 0-0 against Admira at home in the 15th round of the Bundesliga on Saturday. For the first time this season, the league leader remained without a Bundesliga home win and for the first time in 43 league home games without a goal. The happy dress rehearsal before the Champions League game on Tuesday at the French champions OSC Lille was thus missing.
The highly favored team of coach Matthias Jaissle took command from the start. The first chance came after seven minutes for Adeyemi, whose shot after a corner kick was deflected into the side netting by the well-coming Leitner. In the further episode of the first half, the league leaders mostly lacked the pace in the game to play the compact standing Admirans.
Aaronson had the big chance to take the lead in the 37th minute, but the US team player failed from five meters to Leitner. In stoppage time in the first half there was a penalty alarm in the Admira penalty area. Referee Josef Spurny saw Zwierschitz’s intervention against Adeyemi as not worthy of an eleven, and the VAR did not intervene either.
Salzburg with 70 percent possession, but few chances
After the break, a similar picture emerged. Salzburg controlled the game and had well over 70 percent possession, but hardly had any chances. After 52 minutes the spell was supposedly broken, but the goal from Kristensen was preceded by an offside position from Ulmer. It stayed at 0-0. The team of trainer Andreas Herzog defended compactly and appeared offensive as well as not at all. Salzburg goalkeeper Köhn only had to intervene for the first time after 70 minutes. But Kronberger’s shot from an acute angle was not a challenge.
Salzburg tried to keep the winning streak in the home stadium. A shot by Adamu after 70 minutes was too central and new Leitner had no problems. A few minutes later, Aaronson again had a great chance on the foot, but his volley from a promising position missed the goal. So it stayed at 0-0, which, thanks to a repeated appearance on the defensive, deserved it.
