Innsbruck – It was dark hours from which Theresia and Wolfgang Perauer from Bregenz started a new life. Out of anger and hatred over the horrific bloody act that cost their son Michael his life not quite three years ago at the arches of the viaduct, the deeply religious couple developed a life of “forgiveness and peace”, as they said. “Our son would have wanted it that way, because he knew that violence only results in violence. He accepted everyone as they were, ”said Theresia Perauer at a memorial service in the Deiheiligenkirche on Saturday, which was celebrated by Vorarlberg Bishop Benno Elbs and Provost Florian Huber.
The offense has been dealt with under criminal law. The severely schizophrenic perpetrator was admitted to an institution by an Innsbruck jury one year after the crime.
Now the family is also setting “a sign of strength”, as Mayor Georg Wili called it. With the support of the city of Innsbruck and the parish, there is a “sculpture of forgiveness” by the sculptor Udo Rabensteiner from Vorarlberg near the church. Under the place where Michael died.
