The special CoV vaccination campaign in a large transport aircraft of the armed forces turned out to be a success on Saturday. 730 injections are given to the Red Cross in the hold of the huge Hercules C130 made by the US manufacturer Lockheed. Numerous airplane fans also use the opportunity for first vaccinations.
Military pilots and other specialists from the Austrian Air Force are available to answer questions – also for technical questions. Visits to the cockpit of the transporter with four turboprop engines were also possible again and again.
“Children’s eyes rays”
“I would like to thank everyone involved from the armed forces, the airport, the state vaccination coordination and all the helpers. Here the children’s eyes shine like the dying of teenagers and adult airplane fans. A great campaign and at the same time the protection against the coronavirus, which is so important for all of us, “said Salzburg’s Deputy Prime Minister and Health Officer Christian Stöckl (ÖVP).
Mixed welcoming committee
Salzburg’s military commander Anton Waldner, brigadier and military pilot Gerfried Promberger (air force commander), airport spokesman Alexander Klaus, Salzburg’s vaccination coordinator Rainer Pusch and Victoria Achatz from the state’s vaccination disposition welcomed the visitors who were vaccinated in the Hercules C130 on Saturday.
Two buses in addition
Already in the morning, many are waiting at the entrance to the terminal building at Salzburg Airport. Because of the crowd, there were two additional vaccination buses at the airport in order to be able to provide as many visitors as possible with injections and not allow long waiting times.

Tower boss also there
Even the triple vaccinated Walter Hager, head air traffic controller from Austro Control on the tower of Salzburg Airport, privately joined the visitors on his day off and took photos.

The first vaccination line already popular in the Airbus
At the beginning of November, Salzburg Airport organized a first special vaccination option for airplane fans – in an Airbus A-319 standing on the apron with a look into the cockpit and discussions with the crew included. According to the organizers, this campaign was also “a complete success”. 492 people were vaccinated in one day. 238 got the first stitch.
