Weekend at the cinema: films from Venice and Cannes, but also the sequel to Ghostbusters
The weekend brings to Italian cinemas several films that have successfully passed through the main European festivals, but also the long-awaited sequel to one of the most successful films of the 1980s.
annexes from Léos Carax is the film that opened the last edition of the Cannes Film Festival. It tells the story of an artist couple with a young daughter who, in a moment of crisis, decides to spend a holiday aboard a yacht. However, the holiday will not go as hoped. At Cannes Carax won the award for best director. The main actors are Adam Driver And Marion Cotillard.
The power of the dog from Jane Campion instead he was in competition at the last Venice Film Festival, where he won the prize for best direction. The film, based on Thomas Savage’s novel of the same name, is set in Montana in 1925 and tells the story of two brothers who run a large ranch. When one of the two gets married, the other starts a real war against the sister-in-law. The interpreters are Benedict Cumberbatch, Kirsten Dunst And Jesse Plemons.
The worst person in the world from Joachim Trier tells the story of a young woman committed to giving meaning to her life. Seeking professional fulfillment, she will also break up her relationship with her boyfriend to start a new one with a man she met at a party. The main interpreter is Renate Reinseve, winner of the best actress award at the last Cannes Film Festival.
Ghostbusters: Legacy from Jason Reitman is the third film in the series that was so successful in the 80s with the first two chapters. At the center of the story is a woman who lives with her two children on an isolated farm. While strange phenomena happen to her daughter in the town, a strange wit is hidden in the living room, which turns out to be a trap for ghosts. And so the family begin to hunt down the spirits to save the town. The cast also includes several actors from the first two chapters, such as Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd And Sigourney Weaver.
promises from Amanda Sthers is based on the novel of the same name written by the director herself and premiered at this year’s Rome Film Fest. The film tells the story of a man who after a difficult childhood finds serenity in his family. A serenity that is however endangered following the meeting with an art gallery owner close to marriage. The main actor is Pierfrancesco Favino, but there is also a cast Jean Reno.
