The opposition in Prague 12 wants to dismiss the mayor and deputy mayor over investments
According to the opposition representatives, the change in the council should be discussed at an extraordinary meeting, which was convened by the representatives. The document is available to ČTK. The reason for the appeal is, among other things, the reconstruction of Sofijské náměstí and the construction of a sidewalk in Modřany Park. According to the opposition, these are failed investments which, due to barriers, cannot be used, among others, by people with disabilities. Deputy Mayor Fremr told ČTK today that these investments are now being addressed. He is seeking the reaction of Mayor Adamec ČTK.
“The two largest investments made by the Prague 12 City District under the leadership and direct supervision of Deputy Mayor Jiří Fremr ended in an unfortunate and embarrassing result for the city district, which has a significant negative impact on the use of public space in the central part of Prague 12,” the opposition said. It was similarly filed in the case of the motion to dismiss the mayor of Adamec.
Last year, a new wooden sidewalk in Modřany Park replaced the original sidewalk made of concrete panels. The investor was the town hall, the sidewalk was built for 3.13 million crowns by Taxus. However, the wooden sidewalk was built in violation of the permit from 2018, stated in the autumn the construction department of the city district. Fremr said at the time that this was a possible issuance of an additional building permit. He added today that the necessary additional documentation is now being processed.
The opposition criticizes the fact that there was no previously designed path made of interlocking paving with guide lines for the blind. The built wooden sidewalk is dangerous for people with reduced mobility and orientation, said representatives for YES, Change for Prague 12 and Citizens of the Twelve, referring to the findings of the National Institute for the Integration of Persons with Reduced Mobility and Orientation (NIPI).
“According to the opposition, the changes against the originally prepared project also caused the fact that Sofia Square does not comply with the decree for barrier-free use of buildings. The city district paid about 52 million crowns for the modifications of the square. The renovation was completed last year. So far, only a part of the repaired square has been approved, “said Eva Burianová, a spokeswoman for Prague 12, in September. According to her, the slope of the ramp is in conflict with the decree on the barrier-free use of buildings, which was previously pointed out by the National Council of Persons with Disabilities of the Czech Republic.
Opposition deputies now blame the mayor and deputy mayor for making no adjustments to the square to date to reduce the risk of an accident with a reduced ability to move and orientate. According to them, the ramp in the northern part of the square is still fenced and people cannot use it.
The deputy mayor said that Prague 12 on Monday received a proposal from the designer on how to deal with the situation on Sofia Square. He added to the opposition’s reservations about the modifications to the original project of revitalizing the square, that the changes in the project forced the shortcomings of the previously prepared plan. “The changes compared to the original project solution were caused by the fact that it was the original project solution developed under the previous management that was not implemented in detail, and this turned out to be a problem. However, the opposition constantly purposefully neglects this, “he said.
In Prague 12, it consists of representatives of the coalitions of Pirates, ODS, TOP 09 and Greens. The twelfth district of Prague, which has about 60,000 inhabitants, includes the entire cadastral area of Cholupice, Kamýk, Komořany, Modřany and Točné.
