The National Cyber Security Center will be appointed the Finnish National Coordination Center in the EU Cyber Security Network
Governmentst proposes that the President of the Republic approve the designation of the Cyber Security Center under the auspices of the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency as Finland’s national coordination center in the EU network of coordination centers.
The new role would improve the Cyber Security Centre’s ability to support Finnish cyber security-based companies and industries. Cooperation with an EU-wide network would strengthen the role of the Cyber Security Center and support the development of the Finnish cyber security industry.
The designation is based on the Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council establishing the European Cyber Security Center of Excellence for Industry, Technology and Research and the Network of National Focal Points. The regulation entered into force on 28 June 2021. It aims to deepen cooperation between the public and private sectors and the research community in the field of cybersecurity.
The Cyber Security Center would take over the new tasks provided for in the Regulation as a national coordination center. Its role would be to set up and coordinate a community of stakeholders at national level. It would also act as Finland’s contact point in the network of coordination centers.
The Cyber Security Center is already responsible for a number of tasks provided for in the Regulation on National Coordination Centers.
Above all, the National Coordination Center is a strategic investment in the development of Finnish cyber security expertise. The designation of the Cyber Security Center as a coordination center supports the goals set in the Finnish Cyber Security Strategy and the decision on the Government’s Cyber Security Development Program.
What next?
On Friday, November 19, 2021, the President of the Republic will approve the amendments to the law related to the designation of the Cyber Security Center as the Finnish National Coordination Center in the EU Cyber Security Network.
The laws are proposed to take effect on Wednesday, December 1, 2021.
