Prague – Singer Ewa Farna won the Czech Nightingale in the singer category today for the first time in her career. The band Mirai won the most votes in the category. The Golden Nightingale in the Hip Hop & Rap category became the rapper Butcher. Today, the organizers presented the award to the winners of the renewed Český slavík music poll at a gala dinner at the Karlín Music Theater. This year, over 216,000 voters entered the poll, the most since its inception in 1962.
In 2017, Farna finished second in the last year of the Golden Nightingale poll. This year, the singer defeated Lucie Bílá and the third Eva Burešová in the category. Former First Lady Dagmar Havlová presented the winner’s prize.
The band Mirai, led by the Czech-Japanese singer Mirai Navrátil, received the most votes from the band. Kryštof finished second and members of the rock band Kabát took home the bronze nightingale from Karlín.
In the Hip Hop & Rap category, rapper Martin Pohl won the Czech Nightingale. A rapper performing under the name Řezník, who was excluded from the survey in 2013. Otakar Petřina, known under the stage name Marpo, received the second highest number of votes this year. Rapper Raego, named Ladislav Pham, finished third.
In the category of the most streaming song on the Czech internet, the song Divided World by rapper Viktor Sheen won. The most popular composition by Impuls radio listeners was the song Moje milá by Marek Ztracený in the Karlín Theater.
The gala evening was accompanied by actors Aleš Háma and Ondřej Sokol. Apart from the nominated musicians, the guests in the packed auditorium of the Karlín Theater also included Ivana Gottová, the wife of the singer Karel Gott, who became the Golden or Czech Nightingale forty-two times. Some guests came to today’s award ceremony of the funeral of musician Miroslav Žbirka. His recent deaths were commemorated at the awards ceremony by Fair Play, which received standing ovations from the crowded auditorium.
The national poll for the most popular singer and music group was invented in 1962 by editor Ladislav Smoljak. Until 1991, it was called the Golden Nightingale, this year it took place after a four-year break. The awards were last presented on November 25, 2017. Nové is the president of the survey of mathematicians and entrepreneurs Karel Janeček.
