Salzburg celebrate 7-2 victory at leaders Ljubljana
RB Salzburg outclassed leaders Ljubljana in the ICE Hockey League away 7-2 on Friday. The Graz 99ers stop the successful run of the Vienna Capitals with a 3-0 home win. Defending champion KAC defeated the Black Wings in Linz 3-2 after a penalty shootout. Dornbirn lost in Znaim 1: 2 after extra time.
The game of third in the table Innsbruck against Feher was canceled at short notice for corona reasons. The local derby in their own South Tyrol between Bruneck and Bozen clearly went 6-2 to the Pustertal hosts. The VSV was free of play due to the recently completed league exit from Bratislava.
Two days after the 3-0 in the CHL round of 16 against Rouen in Ljubljana, Salzburg scored a 4-0 in the first third. Thanks to two goals each from Florian Baltram and Ali Wukovits, it was finally a real runaway win for the Bulls, and at the same time their highest success of the season.
In Linz, the penultimate round before the spectator lockdown will be much tighter from next week. Thanks to Daniel Obersteiner (6th) and Nikolaus Kraus (27th), the KAC already led 2-0. But Emilio Romig’s power play goal (34th) kept the tension going, and in the last minute ex-KAC player Blaz Gregorc forced extra time to equalize. After goalless overtime, the Klagenfurters and their winning goal scorer Thomas Koch had the better end in the penalty shootout and thus promoted Linz to the bottom of the table.
After six successes in a row, the Vienna Capitals went off the ice again as losers at latecomer Graz. For the Styrians, Lukas Kainz (14th) met in the first third and Andrew Gordon (41) in the majority at the beginning of the final section. Joey Martin fixed the final score with an empty net goal in the final minute.
