Griezmann will be able to play against AC Milan
Antoine Griezmann had seen red after being the author of an unfortunate kick in the head of Roberto Firmino on the third day of the Champions League. An expulsion that had earned a bitter-tasting defeat for the colchoneros, but above all a two-game suspension for the French player.
The sanction had been protested at length by the person concerned, then by Diego Simeone, while it seemed obvious that Griezmann’s kick was unintentional. But the violence of the gesture had first earned him an expulsion with two games of suspension.
According to ‘Marca’, Atlético de Madrid immediately decided to challenge the referee’s decision and uefa would have partly proved him right. The highest body of European football has decided cancel Griezmann’s second suspension game, who had already missed the trip to Anfield for the fourth day.
This is good news for Simeone and his men, who count on their ‘Little Prince’ in what is already a crucial match for both teams. Atlético are currently third, one point behind second FC Porto, while AC Milan is last with just one small point, but can still dream of a qualification if they beat Madrid on Wednesday.
