FIFA is studying measures that can help Portugal in the playoff… to sixfold
AN FIFA will, at this moment, be studying the possibility of ‘cleaning’ all the data attributed to the players of the teams that will compete in the 2022 World Cup qualifying playoffs, as early as next March.
The news is advanced this Friday by the television station ESPN, which reveals that “a total of 107 players after 12 teams” would benefit, since, without this change, they would miss the final of this mini-tournament if they were reprimanded in the ‘socks’.
“Some associations qualifying for the World Cup playoffs have raised the issue. This is a FIFA competition, and they decide the regulations. UEFA will gather the opinion of the 12 participating associations and pass this information on to FIFA,” explained a spokesperson. UEFA’s voice to the publication.
This change to the regulation would be useful to several teams, including the Portuguese, which, at the moment, has six players “on the go” – Rúben Dias, José Fonte, Danilo Pereira, João Palhinha, João Moutinho and Diogo Jota – who, selling more a yellow card, not being able to play in a final.
Turkey would still be the most ‘helped’ team, as they have 13 ‘yellowish’ players, closely followed by Italy and Sweden, who have ten each.
