About twenty Toulouse cultural structures suffered a surprise cut in their municipal subsidies at the end of the year.
“In normal times, each year we welcome more than 2,000 children and adolescents and more than 400 classes and leisure centers. For the first time, we risk saying no to a school that wants to do a screening for young audiences. For Eric Vanelle, one of the partners of the Théâtre du Grand Rond, the surprise drop in municipal subsidies this year is a cold shower. It amounts to € 7,000, or 7% of the annual Grand Rond subsidy. And also results in the end of actions in the direction of the deaf. “Yes, we will survive. But with what we lost during the first term, it is the equivalent of a post. And in the end, a single blow of the ax can bring down a tree. “

At the Sorano Theater, the cut reaches 10% of the annual € 960,000. “It is obviously a very bad bad”, reacts Sébastien Bournac for whom, despite this crisis, the municipality “remains our privileged partner”. The director of the most emblematic theater in Toulouse now wants to ask “the real question: how our supervision helps us to pass this course”.
On the alleys Jules-Guesde, as in the twenty structures that suffered this blow of the plane, according to the town hall, the process was shocking. During the October city council, Francis Grass, deputy mayor, explained that some structures had “reserves”. “In any case this cup can be legitimized by the argument of a pot”, rises Sébastien Bournac who recalls that “the accumulation of seasons is in deficit”. “We must not confuse a cash flow statement with a budget surplus,” summarizes Eric Vanelle. For the RAVIV network, the cash flow is “inflated due to exceptional assistance from the Metropolis” for a project which is frozen. “The city took over with one hand what the Metropolis had given with the other”, deplore these professionals in the performing arts.
