Mastodon with thorns
This year again, it’s the company Abies Deco who was in charge of the installation of this mastodon of thorns. The company specializing in the realization of Christmas decorations is based in Yonne, at the gates of Morvan and had already installed this giant tree in the past years.
On the ramblas for the third year
This is indeed the third year that this immense metal structure which rises to 20 meters in height and on which 385 small fir trees are placed has been installed on the ramblas.
“These firs, resulting from plantations, are spruces cultivated in the Morvan, details Mickaël Goux, boss of Abies décor. We do not cut them wildly in the forest and we replant new ones every year. ”
The installation of this giant tree has Tuesday, November 16 to be completed this Thursday. The lighting of this Christmas tree will follow.
A giant tree that had awaited the controversy
As a reminder, in 2019 the installation of this giant Christmas tree on the ramblas had some criticism. It was then the novelty of Christmas decorations and the political opponents of Jean-Luc Moudenc, mayor of Toulouse, had reacted strongly, denouncing the use of nearly 400 “dead” trees, and the ecological cost of their transport to In Toulouse.
A year later, on the announcement of the return of the giant tree on the ramblas, Pierre Esplugas, deputy mayor of Toulouse, responded to critics of the giant tree, explaining that these trees do not contribute to deforestation, but came from a forestry sector. “These small trees absorb more CO2 than adult trees which are felled in the mountains”, justifies the elected representative.
