Schaan participates in the bike rental system – Liechtenstein
SCHAAN – The “FreeVeloPoint” project, which was supported by the municipality of Schaan, has now expired. Now, die LIEmobil would like to make a follow-up offer available and set up a nationwide bike rental system. The municipal council also supports the new offer and speaks, among other things, 10,000 francs for the daily service.
This e-bike rental is intended to complement public transport and offer an alternative to motorized individual transport, according to a broadcast by the municipality of Schaan. Residential areas, workplaces and places of public interest should be optimally linked. Particular attention is paid to the quality of the e-bikes, which have a deep step-through, stepless gearshift and a mid-engine.
LIEmobil finances and coordinates the project, takes care of the operation and finances the best e-bikes that are placed at the bus stops along the main roads. In order to create a real public service with a nationwide bike rental network, according to the announcement, LIEmobil is dependent on financial support from the state and municipalities. “This is also how the state or the Office for Construction and Infrastructure (ABI) should be responsible for the bicycle parking facilities at the bus stops.
Four stations planned in Schaan
For Schaan it is planned that the ABI will create a rental station at Schaan train station. The community will be responsible for the purchase of ten e-bikes and the construction of three additional stations at the Schaan-Vaduz youth hostel, at St. Peter and on the responsible town hall square. At the town hall location, the existing bicycle shed, in which the power supply is already guaranteed, could be used. In the case of the other two buildings, it is up to the local government to evaluate the possibilities and costs.
The municipality can obtain the entire bike service with battery replacement, maintenance and repairs as a service from LIEmobil. “The cost per bicycle is 1,000 francs a year, and a total of 10,000 francs,” it continues.
The rollout of the project is planned for early summer 2022, as Volksblatt.li already reported. This means that the pilot test should take place with the first batch of e-bikes by then.
