Representatives of the Ministry start their trip to Lithuania
This week, representatives of the Ministry of Transport and Communications will start visits to the Lithuanian region, where they will meet with mayors of all cities.
The first meeting will take place this Friday, November 19, in Kaunas, during which the Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications Agnė Vaiciukevičiūtė and the team will meet with the mayors of Kaunas, Kėdainiai, Jonava, Kaišiadorys, Prienai and Birštonas and their representatives.
“We want to strengthen cooperation with the Lithuanian region, spread the word about the planned activities of the Future Transport Policy Group, introduce how they can have sustainable mobility, bicycle infrastructure, electric mobility and 5G communication development in individual Lithuanian cities.
We want to talk, discuss and hear from the representatives of the regions, what is important to them. We want to solve problems together and thus create sustainable mobility, ”says A. Vaiciukevičiūtė, Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications.
Cooperation will be considered
The purpose of the meetings is not only to offer the vision of the Ministry of Transport and Communications in the municipalities, but also to acquaint with the planned opportunities for cooperation and financing of measures.
Sustainable mobility targets include a 10-fold increase in the number of electric vehicles, adapted infrastructure, an upgraded and electrified railway fleet, an electrified and alternative fuel fleet, and a halved number of fatalities.
Much attention will be paid to the development of bicycle infrastructure – it is planned to build the necessary bicycle paths so that they will be connected to the common network of Lithuanian bicycle paths.
Meetings that last until 2022. During the spring, the bus visited Kaunas, Tauragė, Klaipėda, Telšiai, Šiauliai, Alytus, Utena, Marijampolė, Panevėžys and Vilnius counties.
